Uttar Pradesh tops country in sugar production, beats Maharashtra
With sugar production at 54.96 lakh tons this crushing season (as of January 31), Uttar Pradesh has topped the charts in the country
Maharashtra had topped production last year with 70.99 lakh tons as on January 31 as compared to UP, which yielded only 52.86 lakh tons of sugar.
Among various factors that contributed to the better yield is the cultivation of ‘Wonder Variety 238’, which has a higher yield in terms of crop harvest as well as results in higher percentage of sugar content.

The Gorias and Morias worked for Ahom kings and the Desis were originally Koch-Rajbongshis who converted to Islam. The tea-tribe Jolhas are people brought by the British from the Chotta Nagpur Plateau to work in the tea estates of Assam
