UP govt brings Ground Water Act-2020 to improve ground water levels

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday chaired a state cabinet meeting where the Ground Water Act-2020 meant to improve the falling groundwater level was approved.

Under the act, registration will be mandatory to install submersible pumps.

The domestic users and farmers will not have to pay any fee; an online registration facility will also be available.

Rainwater harvesting system has also been made mandatory in all private and government schools and colleges.

It is essential to monitor the ground water activities in India. This is important because, according to Parliament Committee Report, 2016 around 9 states in India has used 90% of their ground water without leaving a chance of recharging. Also, the increase in presence of metallic elements such as Arsenic, Uranium, Iron is increasing.

WHO extends emergency status of Ebola in DR Congo

WHO downgraded the national and regional risk of the disease from very high to high, while it kept the global risk at low.
The Ebola virus is passed on by contact with the blood, body fluids, secretions or organs of an infected or recently deceased person.

IRCTC’s third privately run train
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on Wednesday said its third corporate train ‘Kashi Mahakal Express’, between Varanasi and Indore will begin commercial operations from February 20.
The train will connect Jyotirlinga-Omkareshwar (near Indore), Mahakaleshwar (Ujjain) and Kashi Vishwanath (Varanasi), besides connecting the industrial and educational hub of Indore and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.
