UP lags behind Maharashtra in sugar production despite 40% more cultivation area’
Despite having 40% more sugarcane cultivation area,Uttar Pradeshhas been outperformed byMaharashtra in sugar productionbecoming the “largestsugarproducing state in the country”, according to a recent report of the directorate of economics and statistics in the Union ministry of <a href="https://exam.pscnotes.com/Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and farmers welfare.
Maharashtra has been maximising production due to better management of Resources, proper utilisation of the mills’ crushing capacity and enhanced recovery rate, the report said.
The report also suggests that the country’s totalsugar productionhas gone up by 7 lakh tonnes from 358 lakh tonnes in 2021-22 to 365 lakh tonnes in the current crushing season. This increase has been estimated despite a rise in sugarcane diversion for ethanol production and other activities by 11 lakh tonnes in the current year, compared to last season.
As per the report, the sugarcane cultivation area in Uttar Pradesh in 2021-22 was on a par with 23.1 lakh hectares while it had produced about 102 lakh tonnes of sugar. On the other hand,Maharashtraproduced 137 lakh tonnes of sugar with cane crop cultivated in 13.5 lakh hectares, less by around 42% compared to UP.
As the farmers in UP sowed over 90% of the sugarcane crop in spring to harvest it in October-November after its Growth of 8 to 9 months, it was not so rich in juice.

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) organized Ganga Utsav – The River Festival 2022 on 4thNovember at New Delhi in two sessions.
Ganga Utsav 2022 is dedicated to theAzadi ka Amrit Mahotsavthat is being observed to commemorate the 75 years of Indian Independence. As Ganga Utsav 2022 is held in the 75thyear of independence, it is planned to have 75 separate events in Ganga and its tributary basin cities and towns, by August 2023, 3-day events in 15 major cities like Haridwar, Mathura, Delhi, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Bhagalpur, Kolkata etc., 1-day events in 60 smaller towns/cities, in which local and pan-India culture based events will be promoted.
Army approves five niche tech projects for development by domestic industry
The Army has approved five Project Sanction Orders (PSOs) for development of Niche technology by the Indian under Make-II route of DEFENCE procurement. The projects include High Frequency Man Packed Software Defined Radios (HFSDR), drone kill systems, Infantry Training Weapon Simulator (IWTS), Medium Range Precision Kill Systems (MRPKS) and 155mm Terminally Guided Munitions (TGM).
Make II projects are essentially industry funded projects involving design, development and innovative solutions by Indian vendors for development of prototypes. An assurance of order is given after successful prototype development.
